DIVISION STRATEGIC PLAN
The strategic plan of a school division is an important document because it lays out the key initiatives and priorities of the board over the next four years. On November 30th, 2015, about 70 stakeholders comprised of students, municipality reps, parents, teachers, principals, trustees, First Nation Chiefs, and department heads met in Russell to begin the process of creating the Park West Strategic Plan for the next four years.
In preparation for this day the board conducted two community meetings, five high school visits, and had each school and department complete a Strength, Weakness, Opportunities, & Threat (SWOT) analysis. Feedback from these consultations was provided to all 70 participants a few weeks prior to our planning day. The information garnered from these various consultations helped the group identify the critical issues facing Park West School Division over the next four years.
The stakeholders participated in a day long process which lead to a rough draft of the strategic plan. This plan identifies six key priorities and goals for each priority, as well as possible strategies which might be used to achieve the goals. Senior Administration was tasked with doing some editing in order to create a draft plan. This draft has been circulated to all participants for further input/feedback. The plan will be refined based on this feedback and a final draft will be created for the board’s approval. Work then begins on implementing the plan.
Strategic plans only succeed if all stakeholder groups have been involved in the creation of the plan; that is why the board selected this collaborative and inclusive process.
