Over $19,000 Raised!

We had a very successful evening raising over $19,000 for our local Russell Cancer Care Chemo Unit. All proceeds stay within Russell. We also had a contest at the school for the students. The student who raised the most money received a signed jersey from the high school team. The winner of this award goes to Colbey Reichmuth raising $1290.00. A prize also went to the classroom raising the most classroom money. Miss Paradine's class raised $1890.00 Way to go everyone!!!! We would like to thank everyone who donated money, prizes and came out to cheer on the team. It is so great for a small town to come together and raise this amount of money for our local unit.

Change to School Calendar

Please note that we have added two professional development days in February and changed a professional development day to a regular school day in March. The changes in the calendar are:

February 8th – Admin/PD day – no school
February 9th – PD day – no school
February 10th – PD day – no school
March 7th – now a regular school day

There will be a two day in-service for all divisional teachers on February 9th and 10th. The topic of the session will be “We are all treaty people.” The session will be conducted by the Treaty Relations Commission of Manitoba. The sessions will be conducted at Waywayseecappo School.

The two-day workshop will provide historical context of treaties and treaty relationships and examine the relevance of Treaties today. Participants will examine misconceptions and stereotypes about First Nations peoples and learn practical strategies to address and undo them. Teachers will leave this workshop with a deeper understanding of how all Manitobans can be effective and engaged treaty partners.

The first day will focus on the cultural and education significance of treaties. During the second day, teachers will work together in smaller groups to examine curricular connections.

There will be a special evening session for parents and community members held at the Russell Inn Conference Center. The evening session will be a condensed version of the two day session. The focus will be on providing historical context of treaties and their relevance to us today. This is a great opportunity for parents and community members to gain a greater understanding about treaties. We look forward to seeing you there.
